Nakajima E8N "Dave"

A photo from a vintage publication featuring a Nakajima E8N "Dave" which, according to the caption, is taking off from Yangtze River on another mission against Hankou. Unfortunately the tail marking has been censored.

My best guess would be tail code V, in white, with an a/c # of 1 thru 4 from one of the Seaplane Tenders, ie. Kamikawa or Kimikawa Maru.
Probably 1937ish. I think they were in the Yangtze area at the time.

Others please chime in as I would like to learn more. Thanks.

After further research I believe that the Dave is from the Seaplane Carrier Kamoi late 1937 or 1938 with a tail code of Yellow 5 and an
aircraft number of 1 thru 6 in White. Kamoi was on the Yangtze river
during this time. Still open for discussion.

More Kamoi information found. She could carry as many as 24 Daves.
So the aircraft numbers range from 1 up. The code arrangement on the tail would be the 5 over the a/c number. Not 5 - a/c number.
Also was ordered to search for Amelia Earhart, but did not.

Oops, I may have spoken too soon. Another new found source says the
Kamoi could only carry up to 12 aircraft. As I am not a ship guy, I
do not know for sure. Sorry about that. Anyone else know more.
